IMDb, short for Internet Movie Database, is where most people go to check who directed a film, what else an actor has been in, or how a movie was received. It catalogs millions of titles including films, TV shows, documentaries, and video games, with cast and crew lists, release dates, runtime, and user ratings. The rating system, based on millions of votes, has become a rough proxy for public opinion, and the Top 250 list is a perennial talking point among film fans.

Beyond the database, IMDb hosts trailers, reviews, and news. The site is owned by Amazon, which means you can often see where a title is available to stream. There are message boards and user lists if you want to go deeper. For anyone who watches movies or TV regularly, it is one of those sites that becomes a default reference without much thought.
