Every Noise at Once – A Map of Every Music Genre That Exists

Website Introduction

Every Noise at Once is a scatterplot of thousands of music genres, arranged by how they sound. Each dot is a genre, and the further down and right you go, the more organic and acoustic the music becomes; up and left is more mechanical and electronic. Click any genre and you get a sample playlist. The site was built by Glenn McDonald, a former Spotify data alchemist, and it uses Spotify's genre data to create a visual map of the entire musical landscape.

It's a rabbit hole for anyone who loves music. You can spend an hour just scrolling through genre names you've never heard of — "deep filthstep," "Ukrainian post-punk," "Norwegian space disco" — and listening to what they actually sound like. There's no algorithm deciding what you should hear. You just explore the map and discover things on your own terms.
