Slashdot has been running since 1997, making it one of the oldest continuously operating tech news sites on the web. Editors post short summaries of news stories with links to the original sources, and readers discuss them in comment threads. The community has strong opinions and long memories, and discussions often go deeper than the linked article itself. Topics skew toward open source, Linux, privacy, and technology policy.

The design has barely changed in decades, which some readers find nostalgic and others find dated. Either way, the editorial team still curates a steady stream of stories that matter to people who build and run systems. If you want to see how the tech community talked about things before social media existed, Slashdot is a living archive.
