Internet Archive – A Library of the Internet's History

Website Introduction

The Internet Archive is a nonprofit that has been preserving digital material since 1996. Its most famous feature is the Wayback Machine, which stores snapshots of websites over time — you can see what a site looked like in 2005 or recover a page that has since disappeared. But the archive is much larger than that: it holds millions of books, films, audio recordings, software, and images, much of it in the public domain.

Researchers, journalists, and developers use it to find historical data, verify old web pages, and access media that is no longer available elsewhere. Borrowing books works like a digital library, with a lending period. Everything is free to access. For anyone doing historical research or trying to find a page that has been taken down, it is often the only place to look.
