You probably have dozens of online accounts. Most people reuse the same password everywhere. That's risky. If one site gets hacked, attackers try that password on your other accounts.
A password manager solves this. It generates strong, unique passwords for every site and remembers them for you.
Use our free password generator to create strong passwords, then store them in a password manager.
Why You Need a Password Manager
You only remember one password. The master password to unlock the manager. Everything else is stored securely.
Every password can be unique and complex. No more using "password123" because you can't remember anything else.
Fills passwords automatically. In your browser or phone, the manager autofills login forms. Saves time.
Works across devices. Your passwords sync to your phone, laptop, tablet.
How to Choose a Password Manager
Three main options. All good. Pick based on your needs.
Bitwarden. Free, open source, works everywhere. I use this. Can self-host if you want to control your data.
1Password. Paid ($3/month). Great interface. Family sharing works well. Good for non-technical users.
Apple Keychain. Free if you use Apple devices. Works well but only within Apple ecosystem.
Google Password Manager. Free, built into Chrome. Works but less features than dedicated managers.
How to Get Started (Using Bitwarden as Example)
Step 1. Create an account. Go to bitwarden.com, sign up for a free account. Use a strong master password. Write it down somewhere safe. If you lose it, you lose all your passwords.
Step 2. Install the browser extension. Chrome, Firefox, Edge all have Bitwarden extensions. Install it.
Step 3. Add your first password. Log into a site. Bitwarden will ask if you want to save the password. Say yes.
Step 4. Generate a strong password for new accounts. When you create a new account, click the Bitwarden icon in the password field. Choose "Generate password". Our password generator does the same thing.
Step 5. Install on your phone. Download the Bitwarden app from your app store. Log in with the same account. Your passwords sync automatically.
How to Generate Strong Passwords
Use our free password generator. It creates random passwords with options for length, uppercase, numbers, and symbols.
A good password should be at least 12-16 characters long. Include a mix of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols. Don't use dictionary words or personal info.
Example of a strong password: K9#mP2$xL8&qR4. Our tool gives you this instantly.
Common Password Mistakes
Reusing passwords across sites. If one site gets breached, attackers try that email and password everywhere else. Use a unique password for each site.
Using weak passwords. "password123", "qwerty", your name. These are the first things attackers try.
Not using two-factor authentication (2FA). Even with a strong password, enable 2FA on important accounts (email, banking, social media).
Storing passwords in plain text. Don't save passwords in a text file on your desktop or in notes on your phone.
Try our password generator to create strong passwords, then store them in a password manager like Bitwarden. Your online accounts will be much safer.
